Breakfast Crostini

Breakfast Crostini

Crostini (meaning "little crusts" in Italian; singular crostino) are an Italian appetizer consisting of small slices of grilled or toasted bread and toppings. The toppings may include a variety of different cheesesmeats, and vegetables, or may be presented more simply with a brush of olive oil and herbs or a sauce.

Along with bruschetta, crostini are thought to originate in medieval times when it was typical for Italian peasants to eat their meals on slices of bread instead of using ceramics.

Although i am calling this as a breakfast crostini but actually this is a palatable appetizer can be eaten at any time of the day. This is my most comfort food as i can eat it at any time of the day.

This Olive Mushroom Crostini is so all rounder and most customized in terms of preparing yet it is so flavorful with richness of olives and mushrooms which makes it more healthy and tasty appetizer of all the time.

I have added more flavors to these crostini by adding some fresh herbs like thyme and rosemary to enhance its flavor and make it more fresh yet pleasing as herbs works great when it comes to enhancing the food flavor.

Ingredients :-

1 loaf of foccaccia or baguette or any bread of choice

olive oil for roasting

For The Topping

1 cup finely chopped mushrooms (i used shiitake )
2 tbsp onions , finely chopped
1/2 green chills , finely chopped
2 tsp plain flour (maida)/whole wheat flour (i used wheat flour)
1/2 cup milk
1 tbsp grated processed cheese
4 to 6 ml medium black olives pitted and chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
salt and to taste

How to Prepare:-

In a pan add olive oil saute green chilies, onion and let it cook till transparent then add wheat flour/maida and roast it slightly till cooks then add milk slowly on low flame and stir continually and add cheese and stir again and mix it well with wheat flour and milk mixture then add mushrooms, olives, black pepper, herbs, and finally add salt to taste and let it cook nicely and evenly for 5 mins and let it cool on normal temperature.

Cut the bread into slices and apply some olive oil on both sides and toast it in preheated oven at 180°c for 2 to 4 mins on both sides or until crisp.

Now spread the topping all over the bread slices and garnish it with herbs and bake it in oven at 180°c for 2 mins again and serve hot. 😝 and enjoy 😋😋
